Which Kind of Auto Insurance do I Need?
Your state decides what type of coverage is required by law; these types of laws determine how much coverage you must purchase in order to drive your car legally. This coverage is known as required coverage, and it’s broken down into two categories: liability insurance and no-fault, also known as personal injury protection (PIP).
Liability insurance covers all costs related to bodily injury or property damage stemming from a car accident, minus the deductible amount. For example, if someone hits your parked car and damages it, liability insurance covers the cost of repairing or replacing it, minus your deductible amount. The same goes for if you hit someone else’s parked car and damage it.
PIP means that your insurer will cover all of your medical expenses stemming from an accident, up to the limit on the policy. PIP is vital to have in case you are ever in an accident and suffer injuries, regardless of whose fault it is.
